The Immigration Department said travellers can register for the “collaborative inspection” automated channels at the new Huanggang port on site or through its mobile application. The “collaborative inspection and joint clearance” model at the redeveloped port will enable travellers to complete both Hong Kong and mainland immigration procedures in a single stop. Speaking at a press briefing, assistant immigration director Jacky Wong said the automated channels will be open to travellers aged seven and above once they have registered. Those aged 14 or above can further register for facial-recognition clearance, which means they won't have to take out their travel documents to cross the border, he said. Wong said registration could be made at registration counters and self-service kiosks at the Huanggang port once it opens, or through the department’s mobile application. In addition, adult travellers will be able to register on the spot when they pass through the channels, Wong said, adding the process would be quick. “At the beginning of the commissioning of the new Huanggang port, the Immigration Department will arrange for sufficient manpower and also the helpers at the scene to help the passengers to go through the registration process,” he said. “The whole registration process over the automated e-channels is very quick....
