On International Women’s Day a Toronto Painting Company is addressing the issues women painters face

Only a small number of women find the trades to be a viable career choice. Ecopainting in Toronto is addressing the issue in the painting trade by exploring the reasons and creating favourable conditions for the women they hire.

During International Women's Day women's groups bring forward issues women face, especially in the workforce.
The construction industry in Canada employs about 1.4 million Canadians. Women make up only 12 percent of that number. A big number of them work in the office and administration of construction companies. There is an even smaller representation of women skilled trades professionals at on-site occupations.

The construction industry and painting in particular realizes the big opportunity of hiring and training young women after graduating from high school. Unfortunately most government and industry efforts to promote trades as an alternative have not been successful.

Despite the disappointing numbers. working in trades is a great career choice:
- Unemployment rates of University and College graduates are high.
- Many graduates that are working, have jobs not related to their field of study.
- Almost every student graduating is burdened with thousands of dollars worth of student loans. This is not an ideal way for young women to start their working life.

George Zarogiannis, president of Ecopainting Inc, a commercial painter in Toronto was asked in an industry blog:

"There is the misconception that women excel in the decorative parts of the painting trade, while men are stronger and more able to handle the physical aspects of the job. The reality is different. Men, may be stronger, as far as brute physical strength is concerned, but that is not needed most of the time. Construction jobs require the mental strength and stamina that women excel at"

On March 8th Ecopainting marks International Women's Day and the role that women play in society with open discussions, positive videos and exposure on their social media.
