In the early years of the twentieth century, contemporary artists started showcasing a new form of art. This form of art became so popular that it is associated with the most famous artworks of this generation. This form of art started a movement like no other, it was branded as cubism. This form of art has existed since early years as artists like Pablo Picasso also divulged in cubism art.

This form of art is easy to recognize as they often give off a flattened and nearly two-dimensional appearance. A few artists include geometric angles, lines, and shapes while using a fairly neutral color palette.

The more artists bought into the movement, a modern approached was incorporated. The use of color, texture and graphic elements such as text became more common. The resulting artwork often appeared as collages rather than a unique art form. Cubism became a movement because it just wasn’t a style or look that artists’ used. It was a form that allowed artists to comfortably accept a one of a kind perspective on things while differently depicting real-life objects

Surrealism art

Surrealism can be loosely defined as a movement in visual art and literature that started flourishing in Europe between World Wars I and II. The surrealism movement grew out of the Dada movement. The Dada movement was an artistic and literary movement that produced works of anti-art. These form of art were deliberately sculpted to defy reason. Surrealism, on the other hand, emphasized on positive expression rather than negation.

The members of the movement were protesting against the destruction wrought by the decision to change to rationalism. The members believe that this was the main reason that had guided European countries into the horrific act that was of World War I. the founder and major spokesman of the movement, André Breton was a poet and critic.

In modern times, contemporary artists adopt the ideas and techniques based on surrealism art. One such technique is the introduction of chance elements into works of art. It paved a way for artists to paint art pieces based on Abstract Expressionists. In performance art, the inclusion of the element of chance led to unscripted Happenings of the 1950s. In computer art, randomization is based on Surrealism.

A surrealist will focus on art pieces which sought to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind. This could be through dreams, psychoanalysis, and fantastic imagery. These factors have provided creative avenues for a number of contemporary artists.
